MEET THE PASTOR

Pastor James W. Goolsby, Jr. was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and at the age of four years old, his commitment to the Lord began when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized. He worked and served faithfully in ministry until he was called to First Baptist Church as Senior Pastor in 2004.

Passionate about teaching the Bible and applying its principles to daily life, Pastor Goolsby’s greatest desire is that all would come to salvation and grow in a standard of excellence in Christian service. Whether through reconciliation for the lost, guidance and instruction for those young in the faith, or encouragement for the spiritually mature to rely on the Holy Spirit, Pastor Goolsby faithfully ministers to people at every stage of their spiritual journey. As a devoted preacher and teacher of God’s Word, he is committed to helping others make wise, godly decisions and develop Christlike character reflected in their actions and choices.

He is an honor graduate of Morehouse College and has pursued advanced theological and counseling studies at Georgia State University’s graduate school of Counseling, as well as, the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center, and Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology.
